The journey to Afrothrone

Afrothrone's inception stems from a long-held passion for establishing a clothing and accessory line. My journey began in 2011 when I first entertained the idea of making clothes. Though I had no prior sewing experience, my determination led me to acquire sewing kits to encourage myself, an impulse I often followed.

Two years later, I decided to take a beginners' fashion class, marking the start of my fashion journey. Though I only learned how to sew a skirt during that course, it was a step forward. Over the following years, I made the pivotal decision to enroll in an intensive fashion school, and it was a game-changer. I began cutting and sewing within weeks of starting. I remember my first class project: a kitchen apron made with Ankara fabric, a material I've always adored. I even added a front pocket and matching bias tape. I cherish that apron to this day.

The joy of finally being able to create what I loved was indescribable, whether it was crafting a six-piece skirt, making my first shirt and trousers, or any other project. These were some of the most exciting days of my life.

Shortly after my wedding, I relocated to London, heavily pregnant and uncertain about my next steps in a new city with limited friends and family. Feeling bored and alone, I pondered the idea of creating an online shop for my clothing, a notion that blossomed into Afrothrone. Our brand is dedicated to crafting African clothes that exude regality and inclusivity. Every item is made with care and ethics in mind, and we offer customizations, such as length adjustments and personalized measurements, recognizing that one size doesn't fit all.
